What can I do as a Thank You to Godparents?
Being asked to be a godparent is a real honour and many godparents will agree that they do not expect anything in return (it is often them that buy the Godchild a gift!). However, many parents want to say thank you so we’ve come up with a few ideas of how to do this:
Photo of the Christening / your child
A popular thank you gift is to give a photo of their godchild or after the Christening a photo of the christening with Godchild and Godparent together.
Token Gifts for Godparents
We’ve selected a few token gifts which are aimed as a ‘thank -you’ but are also lasting keepsakes which could be a reminder of their role as godparents:
- Keyrings – engraved with Godmother or Godfather or a photo holder keyring so you can put a small picture of the child/the christening or even write a few words on a piece of paper and slot this in the picture holder.
- Pewter or silver teaspoons – these can be used everyday as teaspoons so each time they use the spoon they are reminded of the giver of the gift.
“Writing a heart-felt note from yourself in a beautiful card is something which the godparents can keep forever. “
Say ‘Thank -you’ in a beautiful card or letter.
One of the best ways to show your appreciation is by simply saying ‘thank-you’!
Writing a heart-felt note from yourself in a beautiful card is something which the godparents can keep forever. As well as saying thank-you in the card, you could add some of the reasons why you chose them to be godparents – for example:
* that you felt they were someone your child would look up to in the future
* they would be a great role-model for your child
* they have all the qualities you would love your child to have e.g. faith/loving /caring / kind/ honest / trustworthy/ respectful/ optimistic/happy/tolerant/ patient…
* they are someone your child may be able to able to talk with in future (you feel reassured to know someone will always be thinking of them)?
